The Hong Kong government has banned public gatherings to help prevent COVID- 19’s spread. It is natural that people tend to dine out less. Greeners Action surveyed over 2,000 people over the first week of April about their takeaway habits and concluded that more than 100 million pieces of disposable cutlery and plastic bags are disposed of every week now, as the number of takeaways has jumped as people practice social distancing in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Greeners Action has introduced a plan of “refusing using plastics during COVID-19 outbreak”, letting the catering industry and citizens know that disposable plastics are not necessary for take-out orders, and intends to cooperate with some restaurants to encourage citizens to order take-out while using their own utensils by offering the discount coupon.
